Fleming Votes NO On Pelosi Health Care Bill

Statement

Date: Nov. 8, 2009

Congressman John Fleming voted against H.R. 3962 late yesterday evening, more commonly referred to as the Pelosi Health Care Bill. The measure still passed the House by a vote of 220-215 and will now move to the Senate. Today, Fleming issued the following statement:

"Last night the House passed an unprecedented government takeover of health care. Instead of voting for common sense reform that would LOWER premiums for most Americans without costing taxpayers a dime, the Liberals in the House passed a $1.3 trillion bill that will increase taxes and insurance premiums without doing anything to control skyrocketing health care costs. As if that weren't bad enough, the language in the House bill does little if anything to prevent illegals from getting taxpayer funded health coverage. As a practicing physician of over 30 years, I can tell you that this bill, if it makes it through the Senate, will cripple our health care system."

Congressman John Fleming represents the 4th Congressional District of Louisiana and is a member of the House Armed Services and Natural Resources Committees.
