Congressman Eric Massa Begins Reading New House Health Care Bills

Press Release

Date: Oct. 29, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

Today the Leadership of the House of Representatives introduced two new health care bills: H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act, and H.R. 3961, the Medicare Physician Payment Reform Act of 2009. Just like all legislation, Rep. Massa will now begin the process of reading both pieces of legislation before weighing in on them.

"As I've said before, it is the responsibility of a Representative to read the legislation that they will vote upon," said Rep. Eric Massa. "I was one of the members of Congress that pushed for this process to be slowed down in July so that we could return to our districts to hear from our constituents and I applauded the House leadership for listening. Today we have two new health care bills based on what all members of Congress have heard and, while I am sure there will be a lot of media coverage about this, I will not be weighing in on this legislation until I have thoroughly reviewed it."

"Today I am also asking for input on these bills from the families that I have sworn to represent, this is why I have placed this legislation on your Congressional website at www.massa.house.gov."

Rep. Massa also placed both pieces of legislation on the front page of his Congressional website at http://www.massa.house.gov and again has requested input on this bill from the constituents of New York's 29th Congressional District.
