Governor Bill Richardson Highlights Stimulus Jobs

Press Release

Governor Bill Richardson today highlighted new information that shows 5,230
jobs have been created or saved in New Mexico as a result of the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act of 2009.
"The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has provided a major boost to New Mexico's
economy," Governor Richardson said. "Stimulus funds have helped support the state budget by
providing millions for New Mexico public schools and Medicaid benefits. The money is flowing
in every county in the state; highway, energy efficiency and environmental cleanup projects are
underway across the state."
According to www.recovery.gov, 5,230 jobs have created or saved in New Mexico since
February 17, 2009. The federal website shows rank New Mexico No. 9 in per capita stimulus
awards. The site also shows New Mexico ranks No. 34 in the country for jobs created or saved.
The jobs numbers today include reports from state agencies, federal contractors, nonprofits and
private businesses. The jobs numbers also reflect a smaller portion of overall stimulus spending,
as required by federal reporting rules.
New Mexico is expected to receive a total $3.2 billion in stimulus funds. Of that amount, about
$2.1 billion will flow through state agencies before going into local communities and rippling
through the private sector. More than $419 million in stimulus funds have been spent through
October 15.
