Rep. Murphy Joins Health Quality Partners To Discuss Need For Coordinated Care In Health Reform
Today, Pennsylvania Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-8th District) joined providers and patients at Health Quality Partners in Doylestown to highlight their achievements in providing high-quality, low-cost care to Bucks County residents with chronic illness. Since 2002, HQP has participated in the Medicare Coordinated Care Demonstration, and has proven successful in reducing hospitalizations among its patients, reducing health care costs, and improving health outcomes.
Congressman Murphy supports the inclusion of proven models of coordinated care in health insurance reform, so that health care providers can offer better, more effective services to chronically-ill patients without increasing program costs. He has argued that the current health care system is unsustainable and unacceptable, and that reform must make quality, affordable coverage accessible to Bucks families, seniors, and small businesses.
"Health Quality Partners has been a leader in providing outstanding, cost-effective care to chronically ill seniors in Bucks County," said Rep. Murphy. "This is the kind of proven program we should be including in health insurance reform."
"Everyday, millions of older adults with chronic illnesses suffer needlessly, and money is spent on health care services that could have been avoided. New research shows that advanced systems of preventive care like HQP's community-based nurse care management program save lives and dollars," said Dr. Ken Coburn, President and CEO of Health Quality Partners. "We applaud Congressman Murphy's strong commitment to this vital area of research and to making such programs more broadly available to the American people."
Health Quality Partners (HQP) is a not-for-profit health care quality research and development organization dedicated to improving population health outcomes through health system redesign and advanced care coordination. HQP has developed an effective community-based model of advanced care management that improves health outcomes, longevity, and costs for chronically ill Medicare beneficiaries and that works with primary care offices of all sizes and types.
