Specter Applauds Enactment of Veterans Health Care Bill
Senator Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) today commented on the enactment of the Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act. Senator Specter, member and former chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, is a cosponsor of the bill.
"This legislation enables our government to honor its obligation to provide high quality and consistent health care to our veterans who have sacrificed a great deal for this nation," Senator Specter said. "I applaud Congress and the President for their successful efforts to guarantee a sufficient, timely and predictable flow of funding for Department of Veterans Affairs medical care and thank the numerous Veterans Service Organizations which have tirelessly advocated for this important change."
The bill, signed into law today by President Barack Obama, authorizes appropriations for Veterans Affairs Department medical care programs one year in advance of the start of each fiscal year, beginning in 2011. The bill aims to protect veterans medical programs from interruptions in funding when Congress is late passing a budget bill.
