Scozzafava: Americans Deserve Transparency From Washington

Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava, Republican and Independence Party candidate for the 23rd Congressional District, today announced her support for legislation in Congress that will promote transparency and openness in the legislative process.

The legislation, H.R. 554, which has bipartisan support, will require Congress to post legislation online for at least 72 hours before voting.

"Lawmakers -- and all Americans -- deserve the chance to review legislation being considered by Congress before any voting takes place," said Scozzafava. "I am running an open and honest campaign, and I will take that same transparency to Washington."

The legislation, which has 98 co-sponsors, is stalled in committee and unable to reach the House floor for a vote. Lawmakers have begun circulating a motion to discharge, which can force a vote on the floor.

"It's unfortunate the majority-party leadership in Washington is blocking this common-sense legislation from reaching the floor for a vote," said Scozzafava. "I hope they quickly come to their senses and move this legislation forward. It's in the best interest of the people."
