Press Release

Date: Sept. 29, 2009
Location: Wilmington, DE

Emphasizing the importance of Delaware's children in the state's future prosperity, Gov. Jack Markell met with students at the Ferris School and Tower Hill School on Tuesday. First, Markell visited the staff and students at the Ferris School, a state-of-the-art facility that helps teenage boys overcome troubled pasts and get their lives on the right track. Then he spoke to faculty and students at the Tower Hill School's forum about how moral principles guide his administration in making tough public-policy choices as it solved this year's historic budget challenge.

"The difficult decisions we make today will affect your future for years to come. Tackling the largest budget shortfall in state history demanded we make tough choices," Markell told the group of high school students. "We need to focus every day on getting the state's economy moving to create jobs for Delawareans now and ensure there are careers here in Delaware for you when you graduate. We need to focus on making government smaller and more efficient to cut the costs we pay now and meet the challenges of the future. We need to ensure that Delaware has some of the strongest schools in the country to give you the best education possible and prepare you for the future."
