Boccieri Announces $200,000 To Replace Water, Sewer Lines In Village Of Dalton

Press Release

Date: Oct. 9, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

U.S Representative John Boccieri (D-OH) today announced $200,000 for the Village of Dalton to replace aging water and sewer lines. This funding is part of the conference report on H.R. 3183, the Fiscal Year 2010 Energy and Water Appropriations bill, which makes key investments in clean energy, energy independence, and water infrastructure.

Dalton's current sanitary sewer system is 60 years old. Tree roots are clogging the sanitary sewer pipe allowing ground water into the system. That ground water robs the treatment system of working space and creates high flows during rains causing treatment difficulties.

"Current water supply lines in Dalton are restricting a reliable water supply for public and emergency use," said Congressman Boccieri. "These funds are critical to rebuilding crumbling infrastructure in the Village of Dalton and surrounding communities."

"It's nice to see that small villages do count in other's eyes," said Judy Cox, Mayor of the Village of Dalton. "We express gratitude to Congressman John Boccieri and all his staff for the great job in securing these funds. We will put the funds to good use in replacing our worn out infrastructure so as to make our sewer plant work more efficiently."

The existing waterline, which is 90 years old, has approximately three to four breaks per year disrupting water service for the residents in the area and also increases the risk of contaminated drinking water. Additionally, the water main is undersized for adequate fire protection.

The bipartisan appropriations bill helps lay a new foundation for energy efficiency and economic prosperity - supporting good-paying jobs that cannot be outsourced, responsible economic growth and increased American competitiveness in the 21st Century global economy.

This legislation will now go to the Senate before heading to President Obama's desk for signature.
