Rep. Kirkpatrick Focuses On Learning From Israeli Homeland Security Efforts During Middle East Trip

Representative Ann Kirkpatrick has arrived in Jerusalem as part of a eight-day trip to Israel. She will be focusing her attention on the struggle against global terrorism and learning how we can apply methods and tools utilized in the Middle East to address critical threats to our security.

Rep. Kirkpatrick is joining 29 other Members of Congress in meeting with key political and military leaders from Israel and representing the Palestinian Authority. As the only Arizonan on the House Committee on Homeland Security, she is hoping to gain new perspective on their work to break up extremist groups and keep their citizens safe.

“The priority of our government must be protecting our communities and securing our country,” said Rep. Kirkpatrick. “People here have been on the frontlines in fighting terrorism for decades, and they are without a doubt the most experienced in the field. There is a great deal we can learn from them.”

Israel is an innovator and a world leader in homeland security programs, and has developed many emerging security technologies. Rep. Kirkpatrick will be looking at their strategies and how they could be used with our own efforts to secure our borders and entry points, guard our infrastructure and stop terrorism.

The Congresswoman will return to the United States on August 16, and will start the second leg of her “Working For You” Tour next week.
