Stabenow Reacts To President's Address To Congress On Health Care Reform
Today, U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) made the following statement in reaction to President Barack Obama's speech to a Joint Session of Congress.
Tonight, the President focused the nation on the urgency of signing a comprehensive health care reform package into law this year. As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, I have been working with my colleagues for months to write legislation that keeps what works and fixes what is broken in our health care system. Small business owners cannot continue to wait as health insurance premiums skyrocket. Working families cannot continue to be trapped by the status quo where losing a job means losing health insurance. The middle class cannot continue crossing their fingers hoping that the insurance company won't cancel their policy if they become sick. Frankly, the time has come to hold insurance companies accountable so that they treat people fairly. I understand what is at stake for Michigan and I will continue to fight for reform that protects choices, stabilizes costs, and gives every American high-quality health care they can count on.
