Today, U.S. Senator Mark Udall released the following statement in celebration of the groundbreaking for the new Fitzsimons Veterans Medical Center.
"With today's groundbreaking on the new state-of-the-art Veterans Medical Center, we are on track to get the exceptional stand-alone hospital that Colorado's veterans deserve.
"I have fought for many years to get the Department of Veterans Affairs to honor its promise to replace the hospital. I want to thank VA Secretary Eric Shinseki for being here today - his presence makes it official: the vision of so many Coloradans for a new veterans' hospital is finally becoming a reality.
"The men and women who have fought for this country deserve the best health care our government can provide. This facility will help keep faith with our veterans and begin the process of constructing a new medical facility in Aurora, which will also add to our state's health care infrastructure. It's a great day for our veterans, a great day for Aurora, and a great day for Colorado."
