Congressman Randy Neugebauer issued the following statement after voting in favor of suspending federal spending increases in 2009:
"Hardworking Americans across this country are trimming their budgets, finding ways to save and making sacrifices. In these tough economic times, the federal government should be held to the same standards.
"Today, I voted to keep the federal government running for the rest of the year at the same level of spending as last year. The majority's proposal to increase government spending by 8% when our country is facing a projected 2009 deficit of $1.2 trillion is not what the American people expect from Congress.
"Congress owes it to the American people to keep Washington fiscally responsible. Holding this spending to last year's level is the minimum first step we should take."
