UDALL HOPES CHANGES AT CU WILL 'RESTORE PUBLIC CONFIDENCE AND STRENGTHEN THE UNIVERSITY'
(Westminster, CO) - Colorado Congressman Mark Udall (D-Eldorado Springs) released the following statement regarding new athletic department accountability measures that University of Colorado President Betsy Hoffman unveiled at a press conference today:
"I am encouraged by the new accountability and oversight measures President Hoffman is implementing at the CU Athletic Department. There still are some outstanding serious charges against CU, which are the subject of other investigations and a federal lawsuit, so there may be more information forthcoming. But my hope is that the changes President Hoffman announced today, coupled with the new recruiting guidelines announced earlier this year, will restore confidence in the athletic department and strengthen the university for the benefit of the students, faculty and citizens of Colorado.
"This has been a difficult time for the university and for all Coloradans. I think President Hoffman has provided steady leadership during this crisis. Ultimately, the university will be judged by whether or not these actions will successfully reform the culture and environment in the CU Athletic Department that gave rise to this scandal."
