Foster Votes To Block Congressional Pay Raise

Today, Rep. Bill Foster (IL-14) released the following statement after voting to block a Congressional pay raise. The provision was included in the rule for the Omnibus Appropriations Act (H. Res. 184). Foster is also a co-sponsor of legislation to stop the automatic pay raise Members of Congress were set to receive in 2010.

"Last night, President Obama asked us to make responsible choices - today, we did. It doesn't take a scientist or a businessman to know that in difficult economic times, when people are hurting to make ends meet, we should all do the right thing."

"I was proud that Republicans and Democrats came together, on common ground, and blocked the pay raise. The money funding these automatic salary increases could be put to better use, and I strongly support the effort to prevent future pay increases for lawmakers."
