Voinovich Provisions will Fight Invasive Species, Restore Great Lakes, Strengthen Infrastructure and Protect Public Health

U.S. Senator George V. Voinovich (R-OH) has secured vital support for Ohio projects in the Fiscal Year 2010 Agriculture Appropriations Bill which was passed by the Senate August 4 by a vote of 80 to 17. The bill provides funding for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration and a number of rural development programs.

"I've long said that agriculture represents the backbone of Ohio," Sen. Voinovich said. "That's why I am pleased to support these projects that will not only aid our hard-working agriculture families, but will improve the quality of life for all Ohioans and ensure that our state remains a leader in agriculture and agriculture research. I urge my colleagues to work together to finalize Congress's funding recommendation and get a bill to the president."

Next, the legislation will move into conference, where the differences between the House and Senate versions will be rectified. Included in the bill are the following Voinovich-supported provisions that will benefit Ohio nonprofits, universities and communities:
