U.S. Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) today issued the following statement regarding Stephen N. Zack becoming President-Elect of the American Bar Association.
Senator Martinez said:
"I am pleased that my good friend and fellow Floridian, Stephen Zack, has been named President-Elect of the American Bar Association. This is a well-deserved honor for a man that has committed his entire professional life to excellence in the law. Throughout his legal career, Stephen has cultivated the respect of his peers and will continue to excel as he readies to lead the nation's most influential association of attorneys. As a fellow Hispanic-American and lawyer, I take great pride in his achievement. His example will garner further respect for our nation's legal system. I am confident that he will use his position to promote the value of liberty both here and abroad."
Zack, who came to the United States from Cuba in 1961, is set to take office as president in 2010 and will become the first Hispanic-American to serve in that role.
