Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, senior member of the Florida Congressional Delegation, voted today to include a provision that would recoup or stop payments of AIG bonuses.
The provision Ros-Lehtinen voted for would direct the Treasury Secretary to implement a plan within the upcoming two weeks to recoup or stay the payment of AIG bonuses. The legislation would also require approval by the Treasury for any future bonus payments, of any kind, made by TARP fund recipients. Also included are requirements for future contracts entered into by TARP fund recipients to first get approval in advance from Treasury before making bonus payments.
Said Ros-Lehtinen, "It is outrageous, unethical and down right wrong for a company that has received almost $200 billion in taxpayer money to now be using that same money to doll out bonuses, some of which are in the millions per employee. This provision would end these immoral acts and assure this never happens again.
