Grayson Calls On Congress To Choose Life And Vote For Children's Health Care

Press Release

Date: Feb. 4, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Alan Grayson took the House floor in support of H.R. 4, the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009 - a bill which will boost access to affordable health care coverage for low income children and pregnant women through increased federal funding.

The video of his appearance is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPB-BHEvRbw

A transcript of his statement is as follows:

"Madam Speaker, I have five children. Two of them are 3-year-olds who were born prematurely. They were in the hospital for a long time. They were on respirators for a long time. They were on 24-hour monitoring for a very, very long time. If a doctor had come to me and said to me, Mr. Grayson, we can save your children but it will cost $1 million, I would have said, ok. If a doctor had said, Mr. Grayson, we can save your children but it's going to cost your right arm, I would have said ok. Because the life of a child is more important than money. Yet in America we have 25,000 children who die every year without reaching their first birthday. This bill will cover four million children with health care who otherwise would not have it. I turn to the other side of the aisle and I say, let's save those lives. Let's choose life."
