McDonnell Applauds State Senator Ken Cuccinelli's Leadership On Issue

Bob McDonnell, Republican gubernatorial nominee and former Attorney General of Virginia, today applauded the bi-partisan efforts of Republican State Senator and Attorney General Candidate Ken Cuccinelli and Governor Tim Kaine in calling for a special session to deal with the United States Supreme Court's decision in Melendez-Diaz vs. Massachusetts last month. Commonwealth's Attorneys statewide have noted the difficulties the decision presents for Virginia law enforcement.

In a statement, Bob McDonnell remarked, "A special session of our General Assembly to deal with the aftermath of Melendez-Diaz is justified. Trial courts are reaching inconsistent results, and the ensuing confusion has caused unnecessary strain on law enforcement officers and the Department of Forensic Science. Senator Cuccinelli wisely recognized the need to address this issue immediately. Ken has shown great leadership in calling for this special session and I applaud his efforts. This is yet another demonstration of why he will be a great Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia."
