Senator Mark DeSaulnier's Comments on the Retirement of Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher
Mark DeSaulnier, a candidate for the 10th Congressional District, released the following statement today following Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher's retirement from Congress:
"My sincere congratulations to Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher on her confirmation as Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security. She has represented the 10th Congressional District for 13 years with true dedication and commitment. Her wealth of knowledge and experience has helped the district and the nation and will benefit the State Department and the Obama administration. Her retirement marks the end of an era, but I look forward to continuing the tradition of smart policy and representation for the issues that matter most to the people of CD 10.
"I am looking forward to the campaign to represent the 10th Congressional District. I am honored to have received Congresswoman Tauscher's endorsement for my campaign for Congress. In addition, the numerous endorsements I have received from activists, elected officials, and labor unions show that our campaign has the momentum as we get closer to the special election date being called.
"I am the only candidate who has lived in the district for 35 years and the candidate who has represented the district the longest. I raised my two sons here. I ran a business here. And I have been privileged to represent this area as a Mayor, Supervisor, State Assemblyman and Senator. I have fought for the issues that matter most to the people in CD 10: affordable health care; economic security for working families; living wages and fair labor practices; and strong environmental protection.
"I look forward to meeting and talking to voters in this campaign and to representing them when I am in Congress."
