Rogers Supports Fiscally Responsible Republican Budget

Press Release

Date: April 2, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Congressman Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) voted against President Obama and Speaker Pelosi's budget because it spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much. Rogers voted in favor the Republican alternative budget which curbs spending, creates jobs, lowers taxes and controls debt.

"I just can't bear to pass on to our children and grandchild this enormous debt," said Rogers. "Lately, people in Washington think it's okay to go on trillion dollar spending sprees and leave the consequences to our future generations. Throughout my years in Congress, I have worked hard to bring new opportunities, hope and a better life to southern and eastern Kentucky- President Obama's budget does just the opposite. Be assured that I will continue to fight these outrageous bills that leave Kentucky and America's families over their head in debt, raises their taxes and kills already scarce jobs."

President Obama and Speaker Pelosi's budget passed the House today. This budget included the largest tax increase in the history of the nation. The majority of those hit by the Democrat income tax increase are small businesses. Furthermore, the Democrat budget contains the highest level of borrowing ever and will continue to grow the national debt.

Rogers voted in favor of the Republican Budget Alternative which does not raise taxes, controls spending and debt, and creates 2.1 million more jobs than the Democrat's budget.

As a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, Rogers works to secure funding for important initiatives in the fifth Congressional District.
