U.S. Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) today made the following statement regarding the Senate Appropriations Committee's approval of an amendment offered by Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND) to cut funds for TV Marti. The cut was included in the spending bill for fiscal year 2010 that funds the State Department and U.S. foreign assistance programs.
"Today's action is counterproductive to our efforts to stand with the Cuban people and spread a message of freedom," said Senator Martinez.
On the air since 1990, TV Marti is funded by the U.S. Government to provide uncensored news and current events programming to Cuba.
