WASHINGTON, D.C. - House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) joined this morning with several other Democratic members of the House of Representatives at a press conference where they declared the war in Iraq an unwinnable endeavor. Representative Marsha Blackburn (TN-7th District) voted today to condemn the recent abuse of Iraqi prisoners and issued the following statement in response to Minority Leader Pelosi's press conference:
"Americans should be appalled by the defeatist stance taken by Democrat leadership," said Blackburn. "When one of the nation's highest ranking Democrats supports the characterization of our efforts in Iraq as unwinnable, we have reached a new low. I certainly don't believe the dedication and sacrifice of our soldiers is for nothing, and I'm shocked that anyone would support Minority Leader Pelosi's reckless and irresponsible stance. Every American who believes we can win the war on terrorism should call on Pelosi to disavow these comments. I refuse to give those who would cheer America's destruction the comfort of comments denigrating our military and our ability to win the war on terrorism."
