Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack today called attention to Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar's announcement that will escalate solar energy development in the West, fund environmental studies, open new solar energy permitting offices and speed reviews of industry proposals. Emphasizing the important role solar power will play in our nation's energy future, Bono Mack issued the following statement:
"Harnessing the power of the sun offers great potential for clean energy production and a more sustainable energy future," said Bono Mack. "By expanding solar energy development on the vast lands of the West in an environmentally-sensitive way, we can create new green jobs, expand our use of renewable energy and make our region a leader in this emerging field. Dozens of solar applications have been pending a decision for years, and it is time that we take steps that will move us in the right direction toward a cleaner-energy economy.
"Already, we are seeing exciting developments in solar energy production in California's 45th District, and this announcement will help us capitalize on efforts already underway and continue to invest in this tremendous resource we enjoy in abundance.
"Through our coordinated efforts on all levels, we can advance solar power in the most cost-effective and efficient way that benefit residents of our region and across the nation."
