Congressman Watt Responds To House Passage Of The American Clean Energy And Security Act

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Mel Watt (12th District of North Carolina) made the following statement about today's House vote on the American Clean Energy and Security Act:
"Passage by the U.S. House of Representatives of the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (by a vote of 219 to 212) represents an historic step by our nation towards reducing our dependence on foreign sources of energy, creating a new energy industry in the United States with jobs that cannot be exported and renewing innovation in our country that will ultimately make us leaders in energy technology, save money and save our planet. While the legislation is not a completed product and will require more work as it moves along in the legislative process, this is an important first step. Defeating this step or voting against it, in my assessment, was not a viable, prudent or responsible option."
