As Congress continues debate on the energy tax this week, U.S. Representative Paul Broun, M.D. (GA-10) exposed the truth behind the Waxman-Markey Cap-and-Trade energy tax and appropriately renamed it the Wacky-Marxist Tax and Cap bill as it will increase energy costs for each family by $3,100 and may cost up to an estimated 7 million American jobs, including over 16,000 in Georgia alone.
"It's time that we put an end to the monopoly liberals have on the misnomer. In the last 100 days, we've seen non-stimulating stimulus' packages and secretive bills in what was supposed to be an open and transparent' Congress.
"The Waxman-Markey Cap-and-Trade legislation is just another disguise and it's high time that we call it what it really is: a Wacky-Marxist Tax-and-Cap bill that will suffocate America's small businesses, ultimately strangling America's respiratory system.
"Liberals have marketed this energy tax as a way to protect the environment, but I'm just not buying that - and neither should the American people. Too many stones, like the consideration of pollution levels in rapidly expanding countries, have been left unturned for this to really be about the environment.
"I believe that you can clean up the environment and keep jobs and money in people's pockets at the same time. During these trying economic times, I'm pleased Republicans have offered policies that stimulate our economy, not tear it down. I urge the American people to say no to the largest tax increase in American history and encourage their representatives to see the Waxman-Markey legislation for what it really is: an economy-crippling Wacky-Marxist Tax-and-Cap bill," said Congressman Paul Broun.
