Letter To Tea Parties

Letter

Date: April 15, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

Dear Tea Party:

Regrettably, I am unable to attend your TEA Party. However, I want to share with your group my thoughts on the tax, borrow, and spend path that President Obama and the Democrat-controlled Congress have led us down.

The American people are already overburdened with taxes and excessive federal spending. Yet, under the guise of economic stimulus, Democrats in Congress rammed a $787 billion spending bill down the taxpayer's throats, a bill filled with wasteful, unnecessary spending.

What's more, the 2010 budget put forth by President Obama and Congressional Democrats includes more than $1 trillion in new health care spending and $1 trillion in new energy taxes. Their budget will double our national debt in five years and triple it in 10. Spending in this budget is the highest it has been in 60 years - levels not seen since World War II. This will lead to higher taxes, slower economic growth, and fewer jobs for middle class families. In this great country, every generation has improved the nation's prosperity. This level of spending and borrowing would make us the first generation to fail to do so. This is unacceptable.

There is a better way to stimulate the economy - it is by cutting taxes and allowing American families to keep more of their own money. The House Republicans' stimulus bill, which I drafted, would have provided $478 billion in tax relief and created twice the jobs at half the cost.

As your Congressman and as the Ranking Member on the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee, rest assured I remain firmly committed to reducing the tax burden on the American people and ending wasteful federal spending. To this end, I thank you for your support and involvement.

Sincerely,

Dave Camp
