Congresswoman Lois Capps released the following statement after joining President Obama and other leaders at the White House to witness President Obama rescinding the federal ban on life saving stem cell research:

"I was honored to join President Obama and other leaders in witnessing this important shift in U.S. policy. President Obama's decision to rescind former President Bush's misguided ban on life saving stem cell research is an important validation for using science, not politics, to guide federal policy. Just as important, this significant shift in policy will provide new hope for millions of Americans afflicted with diseases like Alzheimer's, Diabetes and Parkinson's and new opportunities for American scientists to utilize all available tools at their disposal to find cures to diseases and injuries. This is yet another positive step forward for our country as we utilize science and innovation to tackle our most pressing needs and challenges."
