Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a senior member of the Florida Congressional Delegation, spoke today on the Floor of the House in support of the Miami-Dade College Land Conveyance Act, which allows the transfer of a Federal Detention Center parking lot to be used by Miami-Dade College (MDC). The legislation went on to be approved by a voice vote.
MDC will use the land to construct an educational facility that will include covered and secured ground floor parking for Bureau of Prisons (BOP) employees at no cost to the BOP. MDC will construct the new facility at the Wolfson Campus and asked Ros-Lehtinen for her help in assuring passage of a bill that authorized the transfer.
Said Ros-Lehtinen, " I am so pleased to be able to help my former alma mater in their expansion plans at the Wolfson campus. This legislation will authorize the land transfer and that will be good for the College, the BOP, and the South Florida community. I am very pleased with its passage."
