Statement

Date: June 10, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

In light of the unfortunate news of a shooting today at the National Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-05) issued the following statement:

"I am deeply saddened by the news of a shooting at the National Holocaust Memorial Museum today. The National Holocaust Memorial Museum plays an important role in the Washington, DC community and in our national collective imagination, and is one of the most comprehensive historical collections of Holocaust memories and oral history. The museum is a constant reminder of the threat that hatred can play in our society, and the necessary commitment of the American people to promote human dignity and strengthen democratic values at every opportunity. My thoughts are with those families that have been affected by this tragedy."
