BARTA Check Presentation with Congressman Gerlach
I'm very pleased to stand here today with my friend and colleague Jim Gerlach to present this very substantial federal commitment to BARTA.
Jim and I worked very hard to get this money for Berks County.
Public transportation is going to play a very important role in the future growth of Berks County, and it's important to get the key pieces of the puzzle in place now.
Jim and I agree on that, and that's why we've been working together to make this happen.
Communities all over the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are working to figure out how to manage growth and spur future growth.
Reading isn't unique when it comes to that.
But where Reading is unique is in it's intelligent, long-range planning.
Because of this facility, and because of the investment this federal funding represents, this community will be planning years from now for the next phase of growth instead of reacting to what happened.
BARTA is really staying ahead of the game and working hard to plan for the Berks County's future transportation needs.
BARTA is staying one step ahead of the game.
Nothing is worse than playing catch-up when it comes to transportation.
That's why it's been such a great pleasure to work not only with Jim Gerlach but also with Denny Lawerst and all the people at BARTA.
This money is going to go to pay for a Park-N-Transit facility and to buy several new buses.
This is an investment in this community's future and it will be money well spent.
