Kingston Continues Fight for Fort Stewart
Congressman presses Defense Secretary on additional combat brigade
As Secretary of Defense Robert Gates testified before him in Washington, Congressman Jack Kingston (R/GA-1) took the opportunity to continue his fight for an additional brigade at Fort Stewart.
"There's no question that Fort Stewart is a world-class facility," Congressman Kingston said. "From the top-notch community support to the existing infrastructure both on and off post, I continue to believe that it's the best place for the army's strategic growth. Any opportunity to highlight that potential and fight for our post is one I won't let go untaken."
Secretary Gates, who was testifying before the Defense Appropriations Committee of which Congressman Kingston is a senior member, indicated that Army had not yet made its final determination. He also indicated that there was not a formal timeline for making that announcement.
"While I wish he could be more specific, he is obviously aware of the good work being done on post and the community's support," said Congressman Kingston.
State Representative Al Williams was in Washington and able to attend the hearing.
"I was very impressed with the way Fort Stewart was represented by Congressman Kingston," he said. "He made very direct statements about the position of Fort Stewart in the community."
