Creigh Deeds' Statement on Dominion Power's Proposed Rate Increase

Creigh Deeds, a Democratic candidate for Governor, released the following statement after Dominion Virginia Power announced a proposed 6.9% rate increase on Virginia's families:

"Virginians are hurting right now. Virginia's unemployment rate recently doubled from the year before. As businesses continue to close their doors, thousands of Virginians are left without work or health care. This is the most serious economic crisis since the Great Depression, and it's simply not the time to ask Virginia families to pay more for their monthly energy bill. It's time to put the middle class first again. I call on the Virginia State Corporation Commission to reject this rate increase on Virginia's working families.

"This proposed rate hike emphasizes how important it is for Virginia to invest in renewable and alternative energy. That's why I'm proud to have partnered with Governor Tim Kaine earlier this year to help homeowners reduce their home energy costs by investing in clean energy technology. This is a win-win for Virginia. My initiative will help Virginia families invest in green energy technology and bring green jobs to the Commonwealth. As Governor, I will continue to put forth creative solutions to invest in alternative and renewable energy and build Virginia's next energy economy."
