Statement on the Biden Stimulus 'Progress Report'

House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) today issued the following statement after Vice President Joe Biden offered a progress report on the implementation of the Democrats' $787 billion stimulus spending bill:

"The Vice President's report including claims of jobs created or saved masks over months of stories detailing stimulus waste, delays, and job losses. Despite Administration claims that the economy needed urgent stimulus, it is reported that less than 6 percent of the allotted money has been spent. President Obama promised to be tough on waste and closely monitor spending, yet special interest projects like the ‘Murtha Airport for No One' have been deemed worthy of taxpayer dollars.

"With regard to jobs, it seems counterproductive to claim credit for job preservation when the focus should be creating an environment that maximizes job creation. Since the President signed the $787 billion spending bill Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid wrote, well over a million Americans have lost their jobs. I sincerely hope that the Administration keep struggling Americans and their families first and foremost in their minds."
