Matheson: Iran Missile Threats Counterproductive

Location: Unknown

Congressman Jim Matheson said today that Iran 's announcement about test-firing a new advanced missile with an estimated range of 1,200 miles is an unacceptable action that disrupts stability and diplomacy in the Middle East.

"For Iran to engage in saber-rattling against Israel and other allies is counterproductive.

We must continue to pressure Iran to halt development of nuclear weapons. The right action is for Iran to begin constructive negotiations with the U.S. on ending Iran 's nuclear program," said Matheson.

Matheson recently cosponsored HR 1327, the Iran Sanctions Enabling Act of 2009, which would authorize state and local governments to direct divestiture from, and prevent investment in, companies with investments of $20 million or more in Iran 's energy sector.
