Rep. Pitts statement Chairman Tauzin's announcement

Washington-Congressman Joe Pitts (R, PA-16) today issued the following statement regarding House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Billy Tauzin's (LA-03) announcement that he will step down as chairman of the committee and not seek re-election.

"It has been an honor to work with Chairman Tauzin since I joined the Energy and Commerce Committee in 2001. He is a great leader. Under his watch our committee acted to address a number of the challenges facing our nation.

"But most importantly, under Billy Tauzin's leadership the most powerful committee in Congress made significant strides for the family, for our children, and for the unborn. The legislation that passed through this committee over the last couple of years will continue to make families stronger for years to come.

"It is vitally important that the Energy and Commerce Committee continue to set the tone for the pro-family agenda in Congress. And I look forward to working with our new chairman to continue in this effort," said Congressman Pitts.
