Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) today issued the following statement on Congress' passage of the Democratic budget plan, noting that the irresponsible plan spends over $3.5 trillion in fiscal year 2010, increasing national debt by $2 trillion this year and raising taxes by $1.5 trillion over 10 years:
"Washington's out-of-control cycle of borrowing and spending must stop," said Bono Mack. "We're facing tough economic times; the last thing that America's hardworking men and women need is more debt and more burdensome taxes.
"This budget increases spending by an unprecedented amount, exceeding 22 percent of our gross domestic product (GDP); raises taxes on virtually every family, small business and worker; and fails to take action to address unsustainable growth in entitlement spending.
"American families cannot afford such an irresponsible budget. As families across America are tightening their budgets, the federal government should do the same and take meaningful steps that will take us toward economic recovery and a better future."
