Today, Rep. Bill Foster (IL-14) has released the following statement in response to China's reported ban of Illinois pork imports:
"I am deeply upset by China's decision to ban Illinois pork. This is an unnecessary action, as humans cannot contract the H1N1 virus from pork products. As one of the top five pork producing states in America, Illinois depends on this important industry to contribute to our local economy. As a scientist and businessman, I know that China's decision is not based on the facts and data. This decision should be reversed before further damage is done to the pork industry and to the hard working pork producers right here in Illinois."
