Norton's Statement Following Senate Committee Passage of the D.C. House Voting Rights Act

Statement

Date: Feb. 11, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) released the following statement by the Congresswoman following the mark-up of her D.C. House Voting Rights Act of 2009 this morning in a Senate committee:

"Every resident surely is encouraged today that, notwithstanding the serious business before the House and the Senate, a Senate committee today voted, moving the D.C. House Voting Rights bill to the floor. Moreover, the House held its hearing Jan. 27 and we have been working daily with the Judiciary Committee as we approach mark-up in the House. We are deeply indebted to Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and his staff who have managed this bill with enormous energy and dedication. With the President long on board and the House and Senate geared up to provide him with a bill to sign, we see a light at the end of a very long tunnel for voting rights for D.C. residents."
