Mikulski Statement on Senate Passage of the FY 2010 Budget Report

U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-MD) made the following statement in support of the Fiscal Year 2010 Budget Conference Report passed by the Senate today:

My number one priority is the same as President Obama's. It's about jobs, jobs, jobs. The Budget Conference Report is another step forward in getting the economy rolling again. It helps with job today by advancing health care reform and energy independence. We can't fix the economy unless we create universal health care that families can afford and that businesses can afford. We must move on energy to keep utility bills down and protect American interests abroad. The bill also takes the first step toward increasing Pell grants to $5,550 by 2010 to help people get ready for jobs tomorrow. Last, but certainly not least, it reverses Bush policies that doubled the national debt. This budget cuts the deficit in half by 2012 and by three-quarters in 2014.
