Michaud Praises Announcement of $6.7 Million in Child Care and Development Funds for Maine

Today, Congressman Mike Michaud praised the Department of Health and Human Services' announcement that it will invest $6,757,951 for the Child Care and Development Fund. This funding, included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), will allow states across the country to support child care services for more families whose children require care while they are working, seeking employment or receiving job training or education.

"Many Mainers are struggling in this economy to meet the escalating costs of child care services," Michaud said. "This one time appropriation will help many families continue to go to work or seek employment while ensuring their children receive high quality care."

The funds will be used by states to provide vouchers to families for child care or to provide access to care through contracts with child care centers or invest in quality improvements. Recovery Act dollars will support a wide range of child care providers, including child care centers and home-based programs.
