REP. CALVERT: "PRESIDENT OBAMA'S BUDGET SHOWS BIG GOVERNMENT, NOT THE PEOPLE, ARE THE PRIORITY"
Today Rep. Ken Calvert (R-CA) issued the following statement regarding President Obama's FY2010 preliminary budget:
"The Obama budget is the biggest expansion of federal government programs that I have seen in my lifetime. The President's budget is not an ambitious agenda of new ideas: it is a recycling of past Great Society' programs that do not work and that the American people cannot afford. It is wholly irresponsible to expand entitlement spending by $1 trillion over ten years, spending which is essentially on auto-pilot' and not subject to congressional approval. Equally egregious is that the budget will require an increase in taxes on families and small businesses and it reverses the 2010 repeal of the death tax.
"As our economy continues to struggle, the answer to our problems is not more government bureaucracy. The answer lies in the ingenuity and innovative spirit of the American people. Let's give all Americans the freedom and incentive to get our economy back on its feet by lessening the tax burden, truly providing a targeted stimulus, while reigning in entitlement spending for the sake of future generations."
