KENNEDY ON MAKING COLLEGE MORE AFFORDABLE
Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, issued the following statement in response to the analysis released today by the White House on the benefits of increasing Pell Grants for college students:
"Today's analysis emphasizes the very real benefit in the years ahead for college students under the President's proposal. In Massachusetts, our students would receive $1.7 billion in Pell Grants over the next decade, paid for by reducing excessive federal subsidies to private student lenders. Nationwide, college students would receive $100 billion in additional funds to pay for their education."
