Bond: EPA's Decision Endangers Families, Farmers and Workers

U.S. Senator Kit Bond today released the following statement in reaction to the Environmental Protection Agency's decision to begin formally the process of imposing expensive, cumbersome new regulations to control greenhouse gasses.

"The Obama administration's actions today will do more to endanger families, farmers and workers with new energy taxes and lost jobs than it does to protect the environment," Bond said.

Senator Bond has long expressed his concern for Missouri families and farmers who will pay higher energy bills under punitive climate change proposals and for workers, especially in energy-intensive manufacturing industries in the Midwest, who will lose their jobs.

The Senate recently approved Bond's amendment to the 2010 Senate Budget Resolution to allow Senators to object to climate legislation if it would cause significant job loss. It is uncertain, however, whether the Democrat-controlled Congress will allow the Bond jobs protection provision to remain in the final budget agreement.
