Ros-Lehtinen Pleased to be Lead Republican on Legislation That Would Increase the Number of Child Mental Health Care Professionals
Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, senior member of the Florida Congressional Delegation, is pleased to be the lead Republican co-sponsor legislation that seeks to increase the number of child mental health care professionals. The legislation "Child Health Care Crisis Relief Act" is being reintroduced in this Congress by Congressman Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) with Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen as the lead Republican on this legislative project.
This legislation would offer loan repayments and scholarships for child mental health and school based service professionals. It offers grants to graduate schools so they can develop and expand child and adolescent mental health programs and extends graduate medical education programs by increasing the number of graduates at the school and extending the eligibility period for interested candidates.
Said Ros-Lehtinen, "The rise in mental health diseases among children is very worrisome and we cannot sit idly by and do nothing while more of our youngsters suffer. This legislation seeks to increase the number of child mental health care professionals so that we can diagnose the problem early on and treat it. I urge my colleagues to support this bill and help us confront this ever increasing problem."
