Landrieu Announces $42M Child Care and Disease Prevention Investment For La.
United States Senator Mary Landrieu, D-La., today announced that Louisiana will receive a $42,409,680 investment from the Recovery Act to support childcare and disease prevention.

Louisiana's Department of Social Services will receive about $40 million from the Recovery Act through through the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) to support childcare for working families. CCDF is the primary federal program devoted to childcare services. It enables low-income parents to work or to participate in educational or training programs to help them find jobs.

"This $40 million investment in childcare is welcome news for the many parents who are struggling to care for their families during this time of economic uncertainty," Sen. Landrieu said. "These funds will help alleviate the burden facing many Louisianians who worry about finding dependable childcare while they work to find or keep a job."

An additional $2 million will be available for vaccines and grants to ensure that more underserved Louisianians receive preventative care. These funds will go toward the purchase of vaccines that will be distributed through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Section 317 immunization program.

"All of our children deserve to receive high-quality, preventative medical care," Sen. Landrieu said. "These funds are an investment in ensuring that Louisiana's children have access to the vaccinations they need to allow them to grow into healthy and productive adults."
