Senate Slams the Door on Fast Track for New National Energy Tax

U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following statement Wednesday regarding Senator Johanns' amendment to protect American families from a new national energy tax of up to $3,000 per year:

"Tonight an overwhelming majority of the U.S. Senate slammed the door on using the fast track process to jam through a new national energy tax. This is good news for families, taxpayers, and job creators."

A bipartisan majority of 41 Senate Republicans and 26 Senate Democrats voted for the Johanns' amendment which protects American families from a tax increase of up to $3,000 through reconciliation of cap-and-trade legislation.
