STATEMENT OF SENATOR EDWARD M. KENNEDY ON JOB LOSSES

Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, issued the following statement in response to today's job numbers showing that 663,000 more jobs were lost in March, for a total of 2 million jobs lost so far this year. The unemployment rate is now 8.5%.

"Month after month, America's working families have been bearing a heavier and heavier brunt of this recession, and now, even more families need our help. Our first priority in Congress is to do what's required to create jobs and lend a real helping hand to as many struggling citizens and their families as possible. We're firm in our resolve to meet these challenges and restore prosperity for all Americans."
