Bono Mack Statement on Reversal of Stem Cell Decision
Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45), a leader in the bipartisan effort to expand stem cell research, today commended President Obama for acting to remove federal restrictions on embryonic stem cell research. Bono Mack, who has joined with her colleagues to introduce legislation to expand promising, ethical stem cell research, issued the following statement:
"This decision to expand promising stem cell research gives hope to millions of Americans," said Bono Mack. "Stem cells have the potential to revolutionize medical treatment and could offer cures to thousands of life-threatening diseases. This important research was constrained for far too long, and I am pleased that our researchers and scientists will finally be able to proceed with their critical work to discover cures and keep our nation competitive with the rest of the world.
"I look forward to working on a bipartisan basis to continue opening the door for ethical and comprehensive stem cell research."
NOTE: Bono Mack has consistently voted to overturn the Presidential veto on expanding embryonic stem cell research. Additionally, Bono Mack has helped introduce several pieces of legislation to expand ethical and comprehensive stem cell research.
