Congressman Bright Launches Economic Recovery Page

Congressman Bobby Bright recently launched a page on his website for constituents to obtain information on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The page contains Alabama-specific statistics on the bill, along with contact information for local governments and non-profits interested in applying for available funding. The page can be accessed through the Congressman's website at http://www.bright.house.gov/ and then clicking on the "Stimulus Information" box on the right hand side of the page.

"Though I did not support the final passage of the Recovery Act, it is my job as a Congressman to ensure that the Second District of Alabama receives its fair share of funding from the bill," Bright said. "Over the past several weeks, my office has reached out to local elected officials to let them know what they can expect from the Recovery Act. I hope my website can be used as another resource for local leaders and concerned constituents who want to know how the bill may be able to help their communities."

Last week, Congressman Bright sent letters to mayors, county commissioners, and members of the state legislature in the Second District that outlined the programs in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and provided key contact information for both the Governor's office and various federal agencies. Additionally, Congressman Bright's office has compiled a document, found on his website, which contains extensive information on all aspects of the bill.

In addition to launching a page on his website, Congressman Bright announced an economic recovery coordinator for his office. Bess Ginty, who currently serves as Congressman Bright's legislative assistant for financial services, taxes, and labor, will be the point person for all questions related to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

"Bess has done a great job navigating the nuts and bolts of the Recovery package and will be a tremendous resource for the people of the Second District," Bright said. "While my congressional office is not authorized to make decisions about which projects will be funded as part of Alabama's Recovery Act allotment, I am more than willing to contact the Governor's office regarding specific projects in southeast Alabama."
